Post subject:  Wrong map when I log...

Hi, I just finished my map, (the size is fine, as said in the tutorial) and I put it through Dragon, all went well. I then put it through Dragon SP and still everything was fine. I then loaded the client, logged on and I was back in Britain! But there were loads of missing statics. What have I done wrong?

when you ran dragon there are two boxes you fill out one is where the map.bmp file is and the second is the map0.mul your editing.

So when you filled in the blank asking which map0.mul your editing where did you point it?

My point is perhaps you forgot to copy your new map and static files into your uo folder.

Yes, I put the UO2d directory with the mul file...

Okay, first copy your map0.mul, staidx0.mul and statics0.mul into the same directory as Dragon. Then run Dragon, enter the location of your bmp, and point Dragon to the map0.mul that's in it's own directory. Next run DragonSP to static all the items Dragon created. From here you have new statics and a map file. Copy and paste files back into the UO directory. Now your client can see them.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

Hi all, I am getting the same problem (this guy is my host). I run Dragon, and each time it crashes... Now I have thought about viruses, so I have done loads of scans and I have nothing. So I have no idea where this could be coming from....

P.S I have re-downloaded many times...

Thanks a lot,

Anageth

Guys: CPU? Amount of RAM? How many other apps are you running at the same time as Dragon? If you don't have a newer system then you need to free up as much memory as possible when you compile a map.
Recheck your file paths. Then recheck them again.

Please excuse my friend, we are both just really 'pissed off' atm cos of Dragon (not blaming the program)...it's just nothing seems to be working well, everything goes from bad to worse....

*edit*

1. 1GB
2. 512MB
3. 1GB

All right, just to let you know I'm running a 3gig processor and a gig of ram in the board, and Dragon still shuts down on me some times. It'll get as far as saving the map and quit. What you have to do (and beleive me we're not insulting anyones intelligence or saying you don't know how to run a computer) but shut down all other programs before running Dragon. Dragon is extremely touchy as far as I've noticed. Hell I just click on something else and Dragon will stop running and freeze up. So when I run it I make sure all other programs are not running, sometimes I even ctrl+alt+del and go to the manager to make sure. Try that out, if you're still having problems (i.e. it's still says that it can't write to staidx0.mul) something is wrong with that file. There's a good possibility another program is using it. What type of server are you guys running? RunUO, UOX, Sphere? Programs like axis and pandoras box actually access mul files (as well as eat up memory Dragon could be using). Try seeing if anything that could possibly be using the file is running in the background. If all else fails I will gladdly compile the map for you. Please don't lose your tempers though okay? We're just trying to help. Even if we're not always doing the best job of it.

Oh Nazgel, thanks that helped. Umm, I am running with runuo, and will try again using your advice. Thanks a bunch :P

*edit*

Ok, it didn't work. All programs were shut, and I did Alt+Ctr+Del and still nothing was there...but I did get the crash report...would that help?

Code:
D:\DOCUME~1\PETERE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER6.tmp.dir00\Dragon.exe.mdmp
D:\DOCUME~1\PETERE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER6.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

Does this mean anything to anyone? Thanks again,

-Ana

I really don't know what could be wrong you guys. You may have to wait for Ryandor to get back before you can figure it out. If you want to send me the map file my e-mail is darkhorizon_admin@sbcglobal.net I'll compile it for you, zip up the files and then send them back.

God thanks so much Nazgel, that would be awesome...but the map (even zipped) is huge, couldn't I send it through Yahoo messenger (don't have it, tell me if you can't send stuff....) I'll wait for now until Ryandor gets back, cos then I know for the future. Thanks a million for your help *shouts* and you guys up there!!

Yeah if you would rather send it through Yahoo messenger go ahead. Just to let you know my Yahoo ID and e-mail adress are the same thing, so don't add me by e-mail otherwise it invites me to join Yahoo messenger which is highly annoying.

Just add me by ID and type in my e-mail. darkhorizon_admin@sbcglobal.net

No, I wasn't implying you are an idiot. Without basic information you can waste a lot of time troubleshooting. It's like the user that calls and says "My computer won't turn on" and most people will be insulted if you ask them "Is it plugged in?" but you would be amazed how often even people who DO know better will skip that step and it does turn out to be the problem (then of course they feel like idiots). So knowing if you are trying to run on an old piece of shit system or not is step 1.

Personally I have never had a problem on my current 2.4GHz PIV, 1GB RAM system no matter what else I have open. The only time Dragon pukes on me is when a script or file is bad, or I do something stupid like have Worldforge open and working off the map in Dragon's output directory.

Now, you said you copied the files off the CD? Did you make sure the read-only attribute is off?

Anageth, are you running in compatibility mode?

I have been talking to Nazgel, and he has the map. Many thanks for your time, and I'm sorry if you feel insulted because of my friend's temper. Ana

Nah, it's cool. I know how it is when the program is giving you fits and then people suggest stuff that you already did. Glad you guys got it fixed. What may I ask was the problem?

It was just the Dragon gui not updating correctly. It does it to quite a few people I guess. If you just sit and let it go (even though it really does look frozen and says not responding in the taskmanager) it eventually finishes the map.

Oh, THAT. Yeah. No matter what kind of system you have, if you change focus to something else and then change focus back to Dragon it looks hung. On a highend system it will resume fairly quickly, lesser may take longer.
