Post subject:  Trouble converting my map

I made a map over a year ago and converted it to Dragon. For various time related reasons I stopped working on my map. I have resumed again now, and no longer am able to convert my map. I tried using my old version of Dragon with no success. None with the Dragon 9 either. I have tried different mapO.mul After 42+ tries I am at a total loss. I have tried doing it on another computer, and having a friend try as well.

I get a mixed up barrage of tiles that even on full map view have no resemblence to the map I made. The map was made on Photoshop in bmp format. I have succuessfully converted it in the far distant past. This is the same map now, just with a few additions. The only additions from a different color pallette were a few sections of starfield and one cave with entrance as they were not available in the distant past.

Any assistance would be immensely appreciated. I think all my hair is going to fall out or be pulled out at the rate I am progressing. :)
Thank you,

Some progress made. The map apparently was not in 256 colors, but more then that. That got the map converted and somewhat walkable, but apparently changed all the colors. So the water is now grass, as are the mountains. The sand is snow, ect... I have been playing around with Photoshop all day, but am not very good with it, and can not seem to find a way to get the map readable for Dragon. I would appreciate any advice anyone might have.
Thank you,

have you saved the bmp as indexed colors?

I tried to do that, but it kept putting in weird colors all over the place. Streaks.

Ok, thank you, thank you, thank you! I decided to go back to the index to see if I could figure out a way to make it work since it seemed to come closest. I figured out how to save the right palatte, then force it to use those colors for changing the map. Then I converted, and it worked!!!
*jumps up and down excitedly*

Seriously, thank you for taking the time to answer. I really appreciate it. This made it worth staying up until 4am when I have to be up in 4 hours. Yay!
