I'm a new mapmaker, and I'm trying to put in a custom map, but I'm having a little trouble. Some things just don't look right. The biggest problem I'm having is the north side (I guess it would actually be northwest) of mountains, they all come out looking like saw blades. edit: For some reasons the pictures won't show, but you can see them at http://www.kingdomofdreams.org/images/UOMountains.JPG and http://www.kingdomofdreams.org/images/UOMountains2.JPG Any idea what I did wrong here? I've been reading guides and tutorials and forum posts, but I can't figure it out. My BMP is saved as 256 color, I used UODragon with Mod9. I'm using RunUO, and I have the CustomPath set in the DataPath.cs script. I'm using that TileMatrix script to turn off dif files, and I've replaced my client files with the new map0.mul, statics0.mul and staidx0.mul files (I'm running a client on a different computer than the RunUO server). If there is any other information you might need to know to help me figure it out and I'll be happy to add it. Thank you, Kurrgan[/url][/i] |

Basically what's happening is that you're making too steep a mountain face, thereby hiding that side of the mountainside. Use at least 3 different altitudes, like 10, 20, 30. This will make it a more gradual slope, and you'll be able to see the hidden slope. -Ryandor |

Thank you for the help, Ryandor. That did indeed fix a lot of my mountain problems. But some of them were already altitude 10. For example, the second picture on my post, those are altitude 10's. Maybe I'm not staggering the 20's and 30's right, so that they cover the gaps in between the jagged pieces, or something like that? Kurrgan |

Keep trying lower numbers until you get it. It's really just a matter of preference on how steep you want your mountains. I prefer a slightly steeper mountainside using 20, 30, 50, then the top is random 60, 65, 70 like: ![]() -Ryandor |

heres my input, or actually how i do my mountains trying to make them more realistic. I slope up grass and forest 10, 20, 30 , 50, into the stone at 55, 65, 75 etc.. this gives it that forest covered mountain look but the peaks are still visible and rocky.... lol maybe i should take some screens eh? |

LOL, thanks, I will post one when i render my current map... ![]() BTW if anyone is interested about making a mountain script that would randomly place trees and rock etc at an increasing slope, that would make it easier to create such mountains, for mod 10 perhaps... |

I've done what Cal is doing on a map I had been working on a few months ago. I wasn't satisfied with the results. Starting out with a certain Z level being the treeline and then above that rock made the rock too low. Making a wider transition range just had the same overall effect as the typical 0 to 20 jump that most do. Maybe Cal has a better technique for it than I did. |
