I plan to build a very elaborate map and have some online buddies make parts of it. But I'm not sure how I might divide up the work to recombined.

One way is to make a shard and allow them on it to build from a GM perspective but thats rather limited. I was hoping for another approach option. Another friend of mine use to talk about combining pieces of map. But hes now quit UO and refuses to even talk about it anymore. So I need another way to find out what he was talking about.

I'd suggest maybe one person making a very basic layout of the map, then slicing up the image into several smaller ones. When everyone is finished with their piece, they send it to one person who can copy/paste into a single image file before converting it to the map.

That's how I would do it. Seems to make sense. Maybe someone else has a better idea I haven't heard of, but I hope that helps a little.
Good luck with the map.

It depends on what stage of the map you want to split the work off. If you are talking strictly about statics and detailwork then running a server and letting your buds on as gms to build is most effective. Otherwise yes you can each work on a different area of the map, mail them all back to you when done and then use a program like uocopy to merge them all together.

Yes, you can split it however, as long as one person combines all the work as StromCrow said. You can di this for statics as well, using UOCopy to paste the static parts in as well.

Hmm. What about making part of the map with dragon so that friends can get started on statics in those areas then combined latter on when i finish the rest of the map with dragon?

Hey cgeorge, this was my first time looking through these boards and what are the chances of finding someone I know here?

Anyways, you could probobly do that without much problem, as long as you don't get it too complicated by making too many small parts. If you did it in two parts then that would be fine though.

Your best bet is to finish the map first, however, as long as you don't change the finished parts of the map, you can have others build in those areas. Just keep track of the statics they create. I would keep everything as world files then freeze them all after the map is completely finished.
