The UO map files are capable of a fully 3D world. They could, in essence, create a client that is 100% 3D, but there?s one big problem: everything would look weird from the opposite angle heh. (no painting on the walls, etc.)

its amazing that you can turn this old 2d game into a 3d game. but, i think it would run slower than shit, and the world is just too small for a 3d immersion. but, using the uo3d animations and some of the emulators and some crazy new 3d client it would be possible to make a fully 3d world with all the great UO open-endedness right? you could prolly use existing emulators as long as the client had all the 3d graphix.

couldn't you just switch the textures from one side of the items to the other?

o well, i doubt anybody will ever undertake this project, redoing an old game can be harder than starting a new one.

The old SphereServer Client could do "fake" 3D, where you could change the viewing angle. It did actually work, and did the textures correctly, but realistically, was only useful from the NW and SE view points. Using NE and SW views was funky as the walls would be te wrong way. Well, that was useful in the ability to see through wall, but there's better cheats out there for that. Overall the cleint was a bit buggy, but useable. I'm not even sure if it's still available.

Does anyone have any of these files anymore?
I tried that uo3x.org but it wasn't found.

You can send those files to my email or put them on the net.

I would be grateful for that.

That 3d Viewer is really cool, though id like to see compatibility with sphereserver using the 3d client from LBR instead of the 2d one that comes with UO:R...

Is this even possible? I have not tried it myself.

I think you guys missunderstood what I mean... The way the UO data files are sat up, a *FULLY* 3D client can be created that is easilly 100% compatible, but since UO was designed with only two of the four possible wall-directions in use, whenever you looked north, things would look normal, but south, and every wall would be empty, making rooms seem half-empty all the time, etc. Kinda' like what it would be like if you moved every peice of furnature in your house to the North or West walls, and absolutely no paintings or anything on the South or East walls...

That would look really weird in any 3d game... or in anyone's house for that matter. *thinks* I'm thinking I'm going to have to do some rearanging today.

Syd,
You still think in the box. You could have "full" walls on a true 3d client if you just added items in places where they would not normally be visible or might look strange on a 2d client.

3D Client User: Dude, look at my new painting *points to south wall*
2D Client User: Dude, all I see is the outside of your house.
3D Client User: Ok, Look at that one over there. *points to east wall*
2D Client User: Uhhhh ok... it's floating in the air in front of the wall.
3D Client User: *pulls out his sword of l33t'ness and kills the 2D client user*

Get out of the God #$%# box!
