Post subject: | resuming work on an old map |
So I began making my map in mod 9... mod 10 and 11 came out shortly after i started and i converted my map over to them. Next UOLandscaper came out and last I'd left off, I was just begining to use UOL before my work got too busy and i ran out of time to work on my map. Now I have time again. My question is whats the greatest and latest as far as tools and how do i convert my map to begin work on it once again? thanks |

Mapgenerator. Converting from UOL will be pretty simple. Converting from Dragon is a little more work but still not all that hard. punt will probably whip up a converter one of these days. |

Map Generator is similar to UOL, as in using 2 images, terrain and altitude. So converting your dragon image manually (only option atm) can be tricky. Basicly advice I can give is, check out the terrain palette in map generator first, and try to relate your maps colors as best as you can.. clean up your dragon image ahead of time by converting your shaded grass, forest, etc areas to solid colors that the Map Generator palette uses.. When you get that done, load in Map Generators palette (swatch). The more you convert by hand first, the better the swatch conversion will end up. |

You need to convert to the new index. First you need to clean the image up. There are several techniques. What I generally do is take a copy. Start eliminating the altitude. So get all grass to 1 color of grass, etc. Then either magic wand the areas and copy and paste the selection to a new image with the right index, filling the area with appropriate new color before deselecting it. Then take the original and group everything by altitude and perform same technique (although it can be easier to just generate new altitude from scratch). The other possible technique is to just change to the new index and correct the colors as you go but it is a lot harder. |

I'm pretty handy with photoshop, got that down. My next questions come to this, what programs do I need now in what order and how are they installed? I tried getting map generator going but only got errors, even after installing those support files. Any dummies guides for this program yet? Also, my more obvious question is where can i get the photoshop swatch /palette file thingy? you know, that thing i'm probably gonna need. |

There are dll files needed to run punts tools, you can find them on the download section of punts World Maker site just read the error map generator pops up, it will tell you what dll it needs. |

The swatches you generate from mapgenerator itself. That way if you changed your terrain or altitude xml files you could regenerate new swatches on the fly. |

"The procedure entry point ??1QString@@QAE!XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library QtCore4.dll." [ OK ] whats that mean? |
Author: | Dian [ Fri Jun 09, 2006 12:10 am ] |
Post subject: | |
That means that you still have not downloaded the dll library files needed. QtCore4.dll in this case.. they are listed on punts site in the download section. |

you need mapgenerator2, not the first one. it is at www.demuria.com/punt/mapmaker |

Alright, status update and new error. So i photoshop'd my image to the right colors with a little trial and error before sucess, then generated the altitude, and lastly went to generate the map. Last step didn't work though, I got this error Alt 1258,2404 has index 237 [OK] This error repeats ALOT but with different numbers, i'm thinking something went wrong in my conversion attempt? |

look in your altitude.xml and see if there is an entry for an Image index of 237. The error indicates you are using an index that doesn't exist in your altitude.xml |

are whats giving me problems. All i've done is convert my map in photoshop to the right palette, generate the altitute file then generated the mul without messing with my alt file just to get a quick test through. Where do you think the problem is? |

Well, a few things. First check the configuration.xml, and ensure all the settings are correct. Second, ensure the terrain/altitude file are really eight bit color (with palettes). The error you got, indicates there was a palette entry, that didn't match the alttiude.xml. However, that doesn't seem to be the case with what you posted. Unless it can't find it in your image itself (or isn't able to read the altitude.xml). |

I had this problem too, It so happened that I didn't properly change the swatch and I was actually inside of RGB color so everything was all skiwompus. |

I went back to my terrain.bmp and gave it a closer look. Somewhere in the mayhem that was my palette conversion process white specs had appeared in my dungeon zone. I colored the out and ran map generator again with complete sucess, or at least no errors. I'm not sure if I've suceeded yet as I realized I have no server set up for UO anymore. trying to pick and set up a server now grr |
